Hayes Grade Center is home to approximately 400 first and second grade students. Our day begins with a focus on citizenship where students are asked to recite the Pledge of Allegiance and the Hayes School Creed. The recitations are followed by a moment of silence. At Hayes, students participate in daily physical education classes, and they attend music, library, and computer classes throughout the week.
Hayes students also participate in Walk to Read. For one hour of the day, all students receive reading enrichment based on their individual needs. Hayes also has a new, innovative maker-space STEM lab where students participate in activities to meet science, math and technology standards. As a Leader in Me school, Hayes students learn life skills based in Steven Covey's 7 Habits of Happy Kids.
Our entire staff received training on the implementation for positive classroom psychology. The 7 Habits of Happy Kids program is an everyday approach designed to address emotions, strengths, friendships, accomplishments, leadership and problem solving.
