In February, 2013, the Ada City School District was awarded
its first AVID Grant by the Oklahoma
State Department of Education.
Since that time, the District has been awarded continuation grants to
both Ada Junior High School and Ada High School to help ensure strong school
wide implementation at both school sites.
AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing
all students for college readiness. AVID
students are invited to participate in the District's AVID Summer Academy and
during the school year, each student is enrolled in an AVID elective class as
well as in at least one advanced course.
Currently, AVID is offered in Grades 8-12.
As part of the AVID system, students are given the intensive
support that is needed to be successful in secondary course work as well as the
skills that are necessary for college success.
College visits, community mentors, and school and community service are
also important components of the AVID System.
The AVID College Readiness System has become an integral
part of the District's mission to ensure that all students have the skills
necessary to achieve academic success as well as to become productive, engaged
