Last year, members of East
Central University's Student Oklahoma Education Association worked to provide
over 75 Christmas gifts for Ada High School students. This year, the group teamed with faculty
members from the Department of Education as well as the Department of
Kinesiology to collect clothing and to implement fundraisers to help ensure
that high school students would receive gifts this holiday season.
"We appreciate the work
that East Central University has done on behalf of our kids. Many people realize the need for elementary students to receive gifts during
the holiday season, but often we forget that it is important that our older
kids are remembered as well," said Paula Kedy, Executive Director of
Academics for the Ada City Schools.
"The members of East Central's SOEA should be commended for their
willingness to help us meet the needs of our students."
The Student Oklahoma
Education Association is a pre-professional organization of undergraduate and
graduate students who are currently preparing for careers in education. The ECU Chapter of SOEA is known statewide
for its willingness to provide
opportunities for students who are working to become Oklahoma's future
"I am thrilled that SOEA
students are developing a real understanding of the needs that many of our
students face. It is gratifying to
think that these college students will be our future teachers," said
